Color Flood: Official How to Play Guide, Controls & High-Score Strategies

Color Flood – 10x10 Chromatic Territory Strategy Puzzle

Color Flood is a relaxing yet deeply strategic graph-connectivity puzzle where every move reshapes a vibrant 10x10 mosaic of six neon colors. Beginning from your anchor square in the top-left corner of the grid, you select a target color from the six-swatch palette. Instantly, your entire connected territory shifts to that chosen hue and absorbs every adjacent tile of the same color. Your challenge is to unify all 100 squares on the board into a single solid color before your 22-move budget runs out.

Because there is no timer, you can take as long as you like to trace multi-step chains across the board, making Color Flood one of the best turn-based brain games for both desktop browsers and mobile phones.

How to Play Color Flood

  1. Locate Your Origin Territory: Your territory always starts at the top-left square (0, 0) along with any identically colored squares already touching it.
  2. Select a New Color Swatch: Click or tap one of the 6 color buttons below the board, press number keys 1 through 6, or click directly on any colored tile on the canvas.
  3. Watch the Territory Expand: Your current region changes to the selected color and annexes all orthogonally connected squares of that color.
  4. Conserve Your 22 Moves: Each color switch deducts 1 move from your Moves Left counter and awards points based on the percentage of the board you control.
  5. Unify All 100 Squares: Flooding the entire 10x10 grid within 22 moves wins the round and grants a massive bonus for every unused move remaining!

6 Tips and Strategies for Winning in Under 18 Moves

  • Break Through to the Center Early: Expanding diagonally toward the center of the 10x10 grid increases the perimeter of your territory, giving you contact with more color clusters on every subsequent turn.
  • Count Perimeter Expansion, Not Just Immediate Squares: Sometimes absorbing a 2-tile bridge that connects you to a massive 8-tile island one step later is far better than grabbing 3 isolated edge squares.
  • Don't Leave Opposite Corners Until Last: Keep an eye on the bottom-right and top-right corners so a single stranded tile doesn't cost you three extra moves at the end.
  • Look Two Colors Ahead: Before choosing between two promising swatches, check which third color both options will unlock on the following turn.
  • Tap Directly on the Board for Fast Play: Instead of looking down at the palette, you can tap directly on the cluster you want to absorb right on the canvas.
  • Eliminate One Color Completely in the Endgame: When only 15–20 squares remain uncaptured, check if any color appears only once or twice and clear it last.

Cognitive Benefits of Graph-Flooding Puzzles

Color Flood is a visual representation of breadth-first graph traversal and greedy vs. lookahead heuristic search. Playing regularly sharpens global pattern recognition, boundary estimation, and multi-step planning.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does clicking the color I already have use up a move?

No! Our engine ignores accidental clicks on your current territory color so you never waste a move by mistake.

Do diagonally touching squares get absorbed?

No, territory expansion travels strictly along the four orthogonal directions (up, down, left, right).

How is my score calculated in Color Flood?

You earn points for every new square captured, plus a 100-point bonus for every unused move remaining when the board reaches 100% unification.

Can I win every random board within 22 moves?

Yes, on a 10x10 grid with 6 colors, lookahead strategies consistently solve boards in 16 to 20 moves.

Where is my high score saved?

Your highest score is saved automatically in your browser's local storage under mysite4u_flood_best.
